SOMCO Supports DENR Environmental Protection Initiative

October 5, 2017 - SOMCO was invited to attend a public consultation hosted by the DENR’s Environmental Management Bureau-National Capital Region (EMB-NCR) held in Brgy. 76, Zone 10, Pasay City. The topic was the designation of the LPPRS (Las Pinas–Paranaque River System) as a Water Quality Management Area (WQMA).

Being one of the stakeholders who endorsed the designation, SOMCO attended the event and was represented by its Pollution Control Officer (PCO), Bladimer L. Limon.

The activity provided an opportunity for DENR to inform, educate and communicate with stakeholders through the following:

  • To present basic information on the proposal to designate LPPRS as WQMA;
  • To initiate the education process on the need for water quality management, the benefits to be derived from WQMA formation, thus serving as a jumping board for understanding the WQMA concept.
  • To provide a venue where two-way communication can flow; the DENR giving its message and the stakeholders conveying issues and concerns for discussion/resolution.

The activity was facilitated by Ms. Vizminda A. Osorio, Regional Director of EMB-NCR, DENR.

SOMCO reaffirms its compliance to DENR regulations and support its initiatives as we commit to conserve the use of natural resources and protect the environment in line with our certification under the international standard of ISO 14001:2015 – Environmental Management System.
