SOMCO Participates In MMDA Estero Blitz

October 6, 2017 - SOMCO actively participated in the “Estero Blitz”, a yearly weeklong flood mitigation activity spearheaded by the MMDA (Metro Manila Development Authority) aimed at de-clogging and cleaning up the waterways such as creeks and esteros in the metropolis in preparation and response for the rainy season.

Simultaneously, SOMCO’s flood control team from MESD was deployed at the Pasong Diablo Creek on the upstream portion which traverses our expressway. The downstream portion was cleaned and desilted by the MMDA crew to ensure continuous flow of water from our end up to its final outfall in Laguna Lake.

Our participation in this activity is in line with SOMCO’s commitment to sustaining a balanced environment, through its CSR programs. The Pasong Diablo Creek was chosen as one of the projects in its continuing support to the Adopt-An-Estero program, an agreement with DENR and LGUs signed in January this year wherein SOMCO is tasked to keep the portion of the creek adjacent in our area of operation clean and endeavor to preserve its natural condition.

Our expressways will ultimately benefit from this project since it contributes to the prevention of flooding or backflow of rainwater along our road network. Keeping esteros clean and unclog is a sound environmental practice which shall also benefit the community around the waterbody.
